                         Poems by Mum (Laura)

Once I found a marble
Among the rocks and sand
Then weeks passed and another surfaced
So I put it in my hand
A few more weeks and yet a third
I couldn't believe what I was seeing
Then months went by and the fourth showed up
The beach was heaven keeping me believing
But I was really shocked when yesterday
A fifth was sitting there
This had something inside it
I named it Nemo, Marlin gently scooped it up with care
My five miracle marbles
Smoothed by the rolling sea
I feel they were sent from my Em
Comforted as much as I can be

Since I've written this as you can see from above, I have found a total of 10 marbles.  Emily was 10.  Eric found the very shiny one when he was raking in Emily's former swing set enclosure.  So, that makes 11.  That's how old she would have been.  I feel that these are gifts from Emily.  Every time I found one I couldn't believe it.  Here are some photos of what they looked like when I saw them on the beach.

The green couch

Worn away
cushions crushed
first was milk
food was mushed

suck from bottle
 knees were up
watching you drink
then sippy cup

you played the wii
first sports with bike
then came idol
at the mike

you made joe cry
such a sound
all your family
gathered 'round

homework was done
right after school
then came dinner
your mum was cool

watching tv
what a perk
eating on the couch
cuz dada's at work

friends came over
fort with blankets made
popcorn to eat
scary movies played

to the right
sits your lava lamp
next to table
where you would "camp"

on the corner wall
stains from your feet
your private place
you & imagination would meet

on the opposite
framed on the wall
amazing painting of flowers
you were talented and tall

10 years just flew
and now you're gone
the couch remains
it's not yet dawn

forced to think
as I glance around
memories of you
are you safe and sound?

a distance dove coos
Max stares next to me
both of us hoping
you are happy and free

will I ever get used to
this lonely green couch?
We love you Em
our hearts are blue...ouch...

One year has passed and we miss you Em...
Wishing you were here each day

The couch has become a scratching post
Max meows ‘it’s time to play!’

We set up a fund in your name
To follow your classmates through school

For field trips, summer band and scholarships
Doing things you loved & thought were cool

Cool to do for your friends
Who still miss you & tell us so

On Memorial Day they read us poems
A fountain was made and Katya let us know

She made it for a school project
It holds sea glass and runs on solar power

There’s a butterfly, a vine and leaves
And the three levels are each a flower

At school we’ve been invited to a concert
They are dedicating it to you

And also an Emily Garden
They’ll plant flowers and grasses too

Now we are at Sandy Neck
It will never be the same

You swam like a fish and played with the crabs
Moby (Jey’s lab) loved it when you came

You’d bring him for walks on the leash
And collected things for upstairs

The “beach store” was full of treasure
You charged guests some hefty fares

You made dada and mum so happy
You went from shy to actress & musician

Playing violin and being in a play
Here at sandy neck you loved to go fishin’

Our talented happy girl
We will continue to love & miss you every day

We all hope that we will all reunite
So we can hug you & forever play
